“But he said, ‘You shall not pass through.’ And Edom came out against them with a large army and with a strong force. Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his territory, so Israel turned away from him.”
But he said, “You shall not pass through.”
“‘Behold, I will press you down in your place, as a cart full of sheaves presses down. Flight shall perish from the swift, and the strong shall not retain his strength, nor shall the mighty save his life; he who handles the bow shall not stand, and he who is swift of foot shall not save himself, nor shall he who rides the horse save his life; and he who is stout of heart among the mighty shall flee away naked in that day,’ declares the LORD.”
“Pass over to Calneh, and see, and from there go to Hamath the great; then go down to Gath of the Philistines. Are you better than these kingdoms? Or is their territory greater than your territory,”
And Edom came out against them with a large army
“And Jesus asked him, ‘What is your name?’ He replied, ‘My name is Legion, for we are many.’”
“The number of mounted troops was twice ten thousand times ten thousand; I heard their number.”
And with a strong force.
“You who rejoice in Lo-debar, who say, ‘Have we not by our own strength captured Karnaim for ourselves?’ ‘For behold, I will raise up against you a nation, O house of Israel,’ declares the LORD, the God of hosts; ‘and they shall oppress you from Lebo-hamath to the Brook of the Arabah.’”

“Against a godless nation I send him, and against the people of my wrath I command him, to take spoil and seize plunder, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.”
“And to the others he said in my hearing, “Pass through the city after him, and strike. Your eye shall not spare, and you shall show no pity.”
“Let us lift up our hearts and hands to God in heaven: ‘We have transgressed and rebelled, and you have not forgiven. You have wrapped yourself with anger and pursued us, killing without pity; you have wrapped yourself with a cloud so that no prayer can pass through. You have made us scum and garbage among the peoples.’”
“Therefore the anger of the LORD was kindled against his people, and he stretched out his hand against them and struck them, and the mountains quaked; and their corpses were as refuse in the midst of the streets. For all this his anger has not turned away, and his hand is stretched out still.”
Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his territory,
“Truly, I say to you, you will never get out until you have paid the last penny.”
“The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is the slave of the lender.”
So Israel turned away from him.
“Since his days are determined, and the number of his months is with you, and you have appointed his limits that he cannot pass, look away from him and leave him alone, that he may enjoy, like a hired hand, his day.”
