Numbers‬ ‭21:26

“For Heshbon was the city of Sihon the king of the Amorites, who had fought against the former king of Moab and taken all his land out of his hand, as far as the Arnon.”

For Heshbon was the city of Sihon the king of the Amorites, (And Israel settled there,

‭‭Numbers‬ ‭21:25).

Heshbon H2809, same as H2808: contrivance; intelligence; reason. From H2803: to plait or interpenetrate; to weave or to fabricate; to plot or to contrive; from the mental effort to think; compute; cunning workmen.

City H5892: a place guarded by waking or a watch. From H5782: opening the eyes; to wake.

Sihon H5511: tempestuous; an Amoritish king. From H5477: to wipe away.

King H4428: a royal king. From H4427: to reign; inceptively to ascend the throne; to take counsel.

Amorites H567: prominence; a mountaineer; an emirate one of the Canaanitish tribes. From H559: boast self; challenge; command; speak; answer; tell; call.

“But you are brought down to Sheol, to the far reaches of the pit.”

Who had fought against the former king of Moab

Fought H3898: to feed on; to consume; to battle (as destruction); devour; prevail.

Former H7223: first in place, time, or rank; ancestor; forefather. From H7221: a beginning; same as H7218: the head (as most easily shaken); principal; top.

Moab H4124: from her mother’s father.

“In the shadow of Heshbon fugitives stop without strength, for fire came out from Heshbon, flame from the house of Sihon; it has destroyed the forehead of Moab, the crown of the sons of tumult. Woe to you, O Moab! The people of Chemosh are undone, for your sons have been taken captive, and your daughters into captivity.”
