While Israel lived in Shittim,

Shittim H7851: The same as the plural of שִׁטָּה H7848; acacia trees; Shittim, a place East of the Jordan. H7848: Feminine of a derivative (the second form being only in the plural, meaning the sticks of wood) from the same as שֹׁטֵט H7850; the acacia (from its scourging thorns).

Isaiah 32:13 for the soil of my people growing up in thorns and briers, yes, for all the joyous houses in the exultant city.

Micah 7:4 The best of them is like a brier, the most upright of them a thorn hedge. The day of your watchmen, of your punishment, has come; now their confusion is at hand.

John 19:5 So Jesus came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. Pilate said to them, "Behold the man!"

The people began to whore with the daughters of Moab.

Whore H2181:A primitive root (highly fed and therefore wanton); to commit adultery (usually of the female, and less often of simple forniciation, rarely of involuntary ravishment); figuratively to commit idolatry (the Jewish people being regarded as the spouse of Jehovah).

“The sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose.”

Genesis 6:2

1 John 3:2 Beloved, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.

1 John 5:21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols.
